Proton Teases 3 New Models for 2025, Sets Ambitious Goal to Compete with Perodua by 2030

At a special Chinese New Year press dinner, Proton's CEO Dr. Li Chunrong and Deputy CEO Roslan Abdullah shared exciting plans for the future. They revealed that Proton will introduce at least three new models in 2025, with one already confirmed: a fully updated Proton Saga compact sedan. This new version of the Saga will feature a redesigned look and upgraded features, including a new Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). It’s expected to be launched by the end of Q2 2025.

Dr. Li also mentioned that there would be new versions of the Proton X50 compact SUV and the X90 model, both with a new 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine, replacing the current 3-cylinder turbo engines. Details on these updates are still unclear, but the revamped Saga is likely to be the first model released.

Additionally, Proton aims to increase its production and sales to match its competitor, Perodua, by 2030. While Perodua reached 358,102 units in 2024, Proton sold 152,352 units. Proton’s Tanjong Malim plant has an annual capacity of 250,000 units, and the Shah Alam plant, which only makes the Saga, will transfer production to Tanjong Malim by next year. Dr. Li set an ambitious goal to reach 330,000 units in annual sales by 2030, and stated that 2024 will be Proton's last year with sales under 150,000 units.
