Hotels, Restaurants, and Gas Stations Approved to Hire Foreign Workers

(Kuala Lumpur, Nov 19) The government has announced that the tourism and gas station sectors are now allowed to hire foreign workers, paving the way for economic growth and preparations for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin stated that subsectors like hotels, restaurants, and transportation within the tourism industry can now employ foreign workers, with an estimated demand for 10,000 workers. The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture will provide recommendations on numbers, subject to Cabinet approval.

Saifuddin also announced that gas station operators can employ foreign workers for cleaning roles. With 4,000 gas stations nationwide, approximately 40,000 workers are needed. This policy requires direct hiring by employers instead of outsourcing.

He emphasized that modern gas stations, which offer services beyond fueling, require expanded staffing to meet operational demands.
