Evolution of Pallet for Packaging & Shipping

Logistics departments in manufacturing companies are constantly looking for better, cheaper and more environmental-friendly ways to pack and ship their products. In 19th century, wooden pallets are widely used due to easy accessibility, low cost and durability. However, with growing concern on environmental impact in early 20th century, plastics & paper pallets were developed as alternative replacement to wooden pallet.

Plastic and paper pallet weigh much less than wooden pallet, therefore they are ideal for air-freight delivery and provides significant cost saving. Besides, plastic and paper pallets are exempted from fumigation and are suitable for clean room environment too.

In order to recycle wooden pallet, it needs to be sent to recycling facilities that have wood shredding machines as well as metal segregating tools which can be costly. Whereas plastic and paper pallets can normally be easily recycled using similar facilities required for recycling general plastic / paper products.
