Chery Omoda E5 Gets a Massive RM27,000 Discount.

The electric vehicle (EV) price war in Malaysia is heating up! Just after BYD slashed the Atto 3’s price by RM26,000, Chery has now dropped the Omoda E5’s price even further as part of its Raya promotion. The SUV is now RM119,818, which is RM27,000 cheaper than before. This makes it more affordable than the Atto 3 Ultra, though with an additional RM5,000 rebate, the BYD still slightly undercuts it at RM119,500.

However, this Chery promo only applies to 2024 models, while 2025 models remain at RM146,818. The good news is that buyers of the 2024 Omoda E5 will receive some freebies, including a free AC wallbox charger (worth RM3,500), a vehicle-to-load adapter (worth RM500), RM1,000 JomCharge credits, and free charging at Chery dealerships.

In terms of performance, the Omoda E5 is powered by a 204 PS, 340 Nm electric motor, allowing it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.2 seconds with a top speed of 172 km/h. It features a 61 kWh BYD lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, providing a range of 430 km (WLTP). Charging-wise, it supports 80 kW DC fast charging, which can charge from 30-80% in just 28 minutes. For AC charging, it offers 9.9 kW, which was impressive at launch but has now been surpassed by the eMas 7’s 11 kW AC charging.

This price war truly began when Proton introduced the eMas 7 last year at RM123,800 for the Premium spec. As part of a launch promo, the first 6,000 buyers get an RM4,000 discount, bringing the price down to RM119,800. With only around 1,000 units sold in the first two months, there’s still time to grab the deal.

The EV price war in Malaysia is making electric cars more affordable, but how long can it last? While buyers enjoy great deals, car brands risk losing profits. This competition may lead to better EV tech and more charging stations, but one thing is clear—EVs are here to stay!
