Veterinary Department: African swine fever found in 2 pig farms in Kerian, Perak

(Kuala Lumpur, 19th) The Malaysian Veterinary Department confirmed that African swine fever was found in 2 pig farms in Kerian, Perak on September 17 and 18.

The Malaysian Veterinary Department issued a statement saying that the Veterinary Research Institute confirmed African swine fever through polymerase chain reaction tests and has implemented isolation measures to prevent the spread of African swine fever.

“The infected farm has been sealed off, and any pig transportation and vehicle movement are prohibited. Monitoring, clinical examinations and sampling have also been carried out on pig farms in the infected area. ”

The statement stated that the culling and disposal of the remaining pigs in the farms infected with African swine fever, as well as the tracking of vehicles involved in the transportation of the relevant pigs, are also being implemented.

The statement pointed out that as of now, the infection has been controlled and has only occurred in Kerian.

“People do not need to panic because African swine fever is not a zoonosis (it will not be transmitted to humans).

The statement reminded that if livestock are found to have abnormal deaths or suspected symptoms of infection in commercial farms and slaughterhouses, they must be reported to the Malaysian Veterinary Department.

The statement suggested that farms should not send pigs with suspected symptoms to slaughterhouses, disinfect clothing, farms and pig transport vehicles, and farms should not share vehicles or visit each other.
