Checklist for Your Foreign Worker’s Work Permit Renewal

Work permit up for renewal for your foreign worker? Fret not, we have prepared a roundup of checklist for you before applying for work permit renewal. Read on!

Employees are an invaluable asset to a company, and foreign workers are no different. In order to work here in Malaysia, immigrant workers require all documentation to be up to date and valid to avoid any complications. With increasing laws and regulations being pushed by the Malaysian Government carried by the Immigration Department, it is at everyone’s best interests to make sure work permit renewal is done right.

Here is a checklist of things you need to take note for your foreign worker’s work permit renewal:

  • Ensure each worker is accompanied by Director of Client indicated upon Form 49 or appointed representative holding valid Yellow Card issued by the Immigration Malaysia during the application of work permit renewal.
  • Closely monitor your worker’s work permit validity and ensure application for work permit renewal is done and approved prior to permit’s expiry date. Lateness on renewal can result in fines imposed up to RM5000 per worker.
  • Arrange for passport renewal at relevant embassies if required.
  • Arrange for one-way return economy air-ticket back to home country (costs to be borne by employer) upon completion of employment contract.

Work permit renewals, annual medical check-ups by FOMEMA and any fees levied in the process are all payable by the employer to the Immigration Department for Foreign Workers.
