JAC T9 Grand ES Diesel Launched in Malaysia – Priced at RM119,888

The JAC T9 pick-up truck has officially arrived in Malaysia, with two variants available – the EV version priced at RM199,888 and the diesel-powered Grand ES, which costs RM119,888 (on-the-road, before insurance). Fully imported (CBU) from China, where it is known as the JAC Hunter, the diesel model is powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder turbo diesel engine producing 170 PS and 410 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and a part-time 4WD system with a BorgWarner transfer case and electronically-locking rear differential for enhanced off-road capability.

Both the EV and diesel versions share the same dimensions, measuring 5,330 mm in length, 1,965 mm in width (widest in its class), and 1,920 mm in height (tallest in its class), with a 3,110 mm wheelbase, making it longer than the Hilux and Triton but shorter than the Ranger and D-Max. The cargo bed measures 1,520 mm (length) x 1,590 mm (width) x 470 mm (height), offering 1.14 cubic meters of cargo space, which is larger than the Mitsubishi Triton (1.06 cubic meters) and Toyota Hilux (1.13 cubic meters) but slightly smaller than the Isuzu D-Max (1.18 cubic meters) and Ford Ranger (1.34 cubic meters). Off-road performance is strong, with 27-degree approach and 23-degree departure angles, a ground clearance of 210 mm (5 mm higher than the EV), a water wading depth of 800 mm, and a payload capacity of 1,000 kg with a towing capacity of up to 3,500 kg.

Visually, the EV and diesel versions can be distinguished by the JAC emblem colorblue for the EV and red for the diesel, with the diesel model lacking the ‘EV’ badge on the tailgate. The diesel variant also comes with additional features such as front parking sensors, an ADAS camera on the windshield, side mirror cameras, and roof rails, which are not available on the EV. Both models are equipped with 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels, though the EV runs on Chaoyang SU318a H/T tires, while the diesel uses Giti 4×4 HT 152 tires (both 265/60). Standard exterior features across both versions include front and rear recovery tow hooks (rated at 3.1 tonnes each), a sports bar, side step rails, LED headlamps and DRLs, LED tail lamps, front and rear fog lamps, and rear parking sensors.

Inside, the JAC T9 comes with double wishbone front suspension and multi-link leaf springs at the rear, along with electric power steering, similar to the Ford Ranger and Mitsubishi Triton Athlete. The cabin prioritizes function over form, featuring a 7-inch digital instrument panel, a 10.4-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, and a cooled center armrest box. The diesel version is equipped with a stubby electronic gear lever and a 2H-4H-4L selector dial, whereas the EV has a rotary gear selector. The diesel variant also offers powered front seats (only the driver’s seat is powered in the EV) and features diamond-stitched seat patterns, while the EV seats have a plain design.

With its strong performance, spacious cargo bed, and rugged design, the JAC T9 Grand ES diesel is set to be a solid competitor in Malaysia’s pick-up truck market.
