Vivo V40 series: Premium mid-ranger with new Dimensity 9200+ chip, larger battery, and brighter screen

The new Vivo V40 premium mid-ranger series has just made its launch in India, in the form of the “regular” V40 and the V40 Pro. Essentially the successor to the V30, the V40 series now sports upgrades such as a new processor, a larger battery, and a brighter screen. Its overall shape hasn’t been changed much, except for its rear camera housing that features more rounded design elements, rather than the more squared-off ones with its predecessor.

Like before, the new Vivo V40 series is equipped with a 6.78” Full HD+ (2800×1260 resolution) AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. However, it’s been tuned to be much brighter at 4,500 nits compared to the previous gen’s peak brightness of 2,800 nits.

The Vivo V40 Pro now gets MediaTek’s latest and greatest chip underneath its hood – the Dimensity 9200+ processor. The regular V40 on the other hand continues to sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip that powered the V30. In India, the Vivo V40 series can be had with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

Featuring Zeiss-branded cameras at the back, both the Vivo V40 and V40 Pro share the same 50MP, f/1.9 main shooter and a 50MP f/2.0 ultrawide camera. The 50MP f/1.9 telephoto camera is reserved for the V40 Pro only. As for videos, you can film at up to 4K at 30fps. Also, there’s a 50MP f/2.0 shooter at the front for you to take selfies too.

Now more durable with dust and water resistance

The Vivo V40 series has also been made to be more durable, thanks to its IP68 rating, making the V40 and V40 Pro resistant to dust and water. The V30 series only had an IP54 rating. Oddly however, on the brand’s Malaysian site, the new premium mid-ranger also has an IP69 rating.

Better battery life thanks to a larger battery pack

Vivo has also squeezed in a larger 5,500mAh battery pack into the Vivo V40 series, 500mAh larger than the ones found in the V30 series. Both the V40 and V40 Pro also support 80W wired charging via USB-C PD.

Operating system and price

The new Vivo V40 series runs on the brand’s Funtouch OS 14 skin, which is based on Android 14. In India, the Vivo V40 is available at a starting price of INR 39,999 (about RM 2,142), while the Vivo V40 Pro is retailed at a starting price of INR 54,999 (about RM 2,945). As for Malaysia, the Vivo V40 series is set to make its launch on 22nd August 2024.
