2024 Chery Omoda E5: The First EV in Malaysia with a SIRIM-Certified Battery

When Malaysians think of SIRIM, they think of quality assurance, especially for electronic products. Now, even cars can earn SIRIM certification. The Chery Omoda E5 is the first car in Malaysia to achieve this, with its battery pack officially certified by SIRIM. This gives buyers extra confidence in the vehicle.

The Omoda E5’s battery, sourced from BYD, has also undergone strict testing in China following the UN R100 standard. This ensures it meets international safety, reliability, efficiency, and durability standards.

“Being the first car brand in Malaysia to receive SIRIM certification for an EV battery is a huge honor and milestone for us. We’re proud to lead the way in the EV industry with the Omoda E5 and to contribute to a greener future,” said Michael Chew, Vice President of Chery Malaysia.

The Chery Omoda E5 is powered by a 61kWh battery, offering a WLTP-rated range of 430 km. It supports AC charging up to 9.9 kW and DC fast charging up to 80 kW. Its front-mounted electric motor delivers 204hp and 320Nm of torque, allowing it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds.

The Omoda E5 is available in a single variant in Malaysia, priced at RM146,800 (on the road, without insurance). The price includes a seven-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, an eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty, and an eight-year/160,000 km drive unit warranty. This drive unit warranty covers key components such as the power motor, motor control unit, battery management system, and the vehicle’s control unit.

Additionally, Chery offers a one-to-one battery replacement if the battery’s health drops below 70% during the warranty period. With this comprehensive support, the Chery Omoda E5 is designed to give buyers peace of mind while promoting eco-friendly driving.
