Penang health activities are popular, Chow Kon Yeow jokes that Penang people are "afraid of death"

(Penang, 28th) Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said that Penangites are very “Kia Si” (afraid of death), so whenever there are health activities held in the state, many people will actively participate, but this actually also raises the health awareness in the state.

When he delivered the opening speech for the Chang Ming Community Spirit Carnival this morning, he said that although the event started at 9am, this was not his first event of the day as he had already presided over the flag-off ceremony for the Penang Bridge Cycling Event earlier.

“Later, when I was having breakfast, I found another running event with about 3,000 people participating. It shows that the people of Penang attach great importance to health. This is in line with the Penang 2030 Vision, which is to encourage the public to participate in community activities and build a healthy Penang.”

He also mentioned that the Chang Ming Community Spirit Carnival was initiated by the Ministry of Communications and Communications. As of now, 1,878 Chang Ming communities have been established nationwide, including 120 in 40 constituencies in Penang.

The Chang Ming Community Health Carnival held at New World Plaza this morning was organized by the Paige Road/Noorden Road Community Committee and Chang Ming Malaysia, co-organized by the Che Shui Road Central Chang Ming Community, Padang Kota District Community Committee, Women's Committee and Youth Committee, with Gleneagles Hospital and Georgetown Community Emergency Rescue Team (CERT Georgetown) as medical partners. There are multiple health check-up and medical equipment display booths on site to provide free consultation services to the public.

Deputy Finance Minister and Tanjong MP Lim Hui Eng said that the Unity Government attaches great importance to the well-being of the people and has launched various health programs, including the "Prosperous Malaysia Healthcare Plan" pilot project in the 2024 Budget. The Northeast District of Penang Island is fortunate to be included as one of the areas for implementing the pilot project nationwide.

She mentioned that since the implementation of the plan in 2023, it has alleviated the congestion in public clinics and hospitals and increased the health needs of the B40 family group.
