Yutong Unveils New Electric Bus Technology In Brisbane

Global bus and coach manufacturer Yutong has released its most advanced electric technology to date in Australia at this week’s National Bus & Coach Show.

The Yutong Electric Architecture (YEA) has been seen in global markets, with the brand’s first EV-specific platform in the commercial vehicle industry now set to be included in vehicles in the APAC market.

Yutong unveiled the technology at its YEA Green Exploration Journey event as part of the company’s commitment to green travel across the globe.

YEA technology integrates software and hardware on Yutong’s electric buses and coaches to meet all-scenario needs of buses, with the C and YOS architecture at the core of the technology being independently developed by Yutong.

Together, the C structure and the YOS operating system allow the platform to deliver improvements in environmental sustainability, economic efficiency, vehicle performance and safety by allowing for more advanced electric drive systems.

“The Asia–Pacific region serves as a cornerstone of global development stability, and a hub for cooperation,” Yutong Asia-Pacific CEO and vice president of the Asia-Pacific Executive Committee (APC) Kent Chang said at the launch in Brisbane.

“At Yutong we not only export new energy buses but also actively engage in local collaborations with several countries and regions, leveraging our technological and industrial chain advantages.

“This strategic shift from ‘product output’ to ‘technology output’ is driving the advancement of electric commercial vehicles. YEA technology will undoubtedly help the region achieve goals and promote green transformation of local transportation systems.”

Yutong’s YEA technology has already been on display globally after being used onboard vehicles at this year’s Paris Olympics to transport spectators and athletes.

On top of this, Yutong also showcased its 2024 E7S bus at the Show in Brisbane as part of its YEA Green Exploration Journey event. The micro-circulation battery electric bus is now available in Asia-Pacific for urban feeder routes, providing a new solution for metropolitan operators.

The E7S accommodates up to 23 passengers with a dedicated wheelchair area. Yutong says safety is enhanced by an independent suspension system offering collision protection, complemented by IP68 and IP6K9K ratings for additional reliability.

Yutong is also actively collaborating with local partners to advance the development of new energy buses, including the first E12 pure electric chassis prototype that has rolled off the production line.

The final part of Yutong’s releases came at its event this week where it announced a Global Carbon Free Forest initiative that will see the company plant a tree for every vehicle sold in a bid to ensure long-term scalability and environment support.

“Yutong Asia-Pacific has proudly provided premium and reliable green solutions to over 300 customers, delivering substantial economic and social benefits,” Chang said.

“Through our YEA Green Exploration Journey, we aim to accelerate the realisation of a ‘zero carbon emission’ future. Together with our partners in the Asia-Pacific region, we are committed to advancing a greener future, driving economic prosperity and fostering sustainable development across the region.”
