Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof stated that the government aims to achieve a 40 percent renewable energy (RE) share in the national fuel mix by 2035. He, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, added that this initiative is expected to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 10 million tons annually.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) plans to increase the RE share in the fuel mix to 100 percent by 2050. Given this commitment, Malaysia recognizes the crucial role of renewable energy in sustainable development and in mitigating negative environmental impacts.
Each country has different resources depending on their geography and climate. Malaysia, covering more than 330,000 square kilometers with a population of over 32 million, has significant potential in this industry. For instance, solar energy—due to Malaysia's location near the equator—allows the country to receive sunlight throughout the year.
