A root canal treatment X-ray typically shows the inside of a tooth after it has been treated for infection or damage. The X-ray will highlight the following:
Before Treatment: An X-ray before root canal therapy shows the extent of infection, decay, or damage to the tooth pulp (the soft tissue inside the tooth). It may reveal abscesses or deep cavities affecting the root.
After Treatment: After the root canal procedure, an X-ray will show the cleaned-out pulp chamber and the filled root canals. The dentist will place a filling in the canal, and the X-ray will confirm whether the entire canal is filled appropriately, and there are no remaining gaps or infections.
Follow-up X-rays: These are used to ensure the healing process is progressing, confirming there’s no ongoing infection or complications. Over time, any signs of infection or healing at the root tip can also be monitored through follow-up X-rays.
