Things you need to know about getting work permit for your foreign worker
Hey Boss! Still troubling over the work permit renewal for your foreign worker? You can avoid making mistakes in these complicated processes if you understand about the terms and conditions for work permit application and work permit renewal.
In an effort to enhance and tighten the national security, it is regulated that Malaysian employers are required to ensure all foreign worker candidates to have undergone ISC verification as mandatory requirement for work permit renewal application in Malaysia.
Before applying for the work permit, here’s what you should know:
The foreign worker must be a passport holder with validity of at least 18 months.
The foreign worker must be between 18 to 45 years’ old at the time of application.
Work permit issued is usually valid for a period between 6 months to 5 years.
The foreign worker is only permitted to work in these sectors - Manufacturing, Construction, Plantation, Agriculture and Services.
The foreign worker must be certified PASS for Immigration Security Clearance (ISC) in the source country.
The foreign worker must be certified as fit and healthy by the approved medical center in the source country.
3 main types of Work Passes you may apply for:
1. Employment Pass
For workers with specific skills such as manufacturing, construction plantation and etc. This type of pass is issued for a minimum of 2 years, and is only approved for work to be carried out in these sectors - manufacturing, plantation, agriculture, construction and service.
2. Temporary Employment Pass
For employment of foreign worker for a duration of less than 2 years or for jobs with salary less than RM5000. This type of pass is only approved for work to be carried out in these sectors -manufacturing, plantation, agriculture, construction and service.
3. Professional Visit Pass
For workers who remain employed in the home country while providing service to Malaysia company. This type of pass allows worker to visit Malaysia or a period up to 6 months.
On a final note, all foreign workers must come from approved source countries such as Vietnam, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bangladesh and others. No working shall be allowed to commence before the work permit application / work permit renewal is approved, or you may be charged under Malaysian law for illegal workers.
