Joint Petition (Mutual Divorce) Simple Guide

Step-by-Step Guide: Mutual Agreement Divorce

1️⃣Agree on Divorce Terms
Parties to discuss the divorce terms including child custody, child or spousal support, and the division of marital assets etc. 

2️⃣ Prepare and Submit Documents
Provide the following documents to your lawyer:

  • Copy of marriage certificate
  • Copies of both parties' identity cards
  • Copies of children's birth certificates
  • Children's medical reports (for children under 18)
  • Other documents (e.g., joint property deeds, joint bank accounts, etc.)

3️⃣ Sign the Divorce Papers
Once the divorce document is prepared, both parties schedule a time to sign (no need to sign at the same time).

4️⃣Wait for the Court to schedule the Hearing Date
After signing, wait for the court to set a hearing date.

5️⃣ Attend Court Hearing
Both parties must attend the court hearing in person. If one party cannot attend, inform the lawyer in advance and submit the necessary documents.

6️⃣ Grant of Divorce
(3) three months after the court hearing, the divorce is finalized, and you will receive the Decree Absolute (divorce certificate).
