2025 Toyota Camry XV80 with Hybrid, 227 PS – Coming to Malaysia!
The all-new 2025 Toyota Camry XV80 is set to launch in Malaysia this December, as confirmed by local Toyota dealers. A highlight for the Malaysian market is the arrival of the 2.5-liter hybrid variant, similar to what’s available in Singapore and Thailand.
Reports indicate that many Toyota dealers have sold out of the outgoing XV70 generation, and customers interested in the Camry are now encouraged to register for the new model. Sales advisors have also completed their training on the latest features and specifications.
As before, the Camry will be imported fully assembled (CBU) from Thailand, allowing for a quicker launch in Malaysia following its recent debut there. Unlike locally assembled models, the imported Camry bypasses the need for local retooling and part sourcing, speeding up the process.
Under the hood, the new XV80 Camry will be equipped with a 2.5-liter Dynamic Force Hybrid powertrain. This setup combines a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder petrol engine (producing 188 PS and 221 Nm) with an electric motor, generating a total output of 227 PS. The hybrid system is paired with an E-CVT transmission driving the front wheels.
The battery has also been upgraded from a nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) to a lighter 1.006 kWh lithium-ion unit, improving overall weight distribution.
The new XV80 generation Camry brings a major refresh compared to the XV70, with most updates focusing on aesthetics, though they are quite substantial. While still based on Toyota's TNGA platform, the suspension has been retuned to offer improved handling over the previous model.
This launch also marks the return of a hybrid Camry in Malaysia, the first since the XV50 Camry facelift model, which was sold locally between 2015 and 2018 with a price tag of around RM 175k.
This model featured a 2.5-liter VVT-i four-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 205 PS. Its hybrid system was matched with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT). Notably, it was also Malaysia's first locally assembled Toyota hybrid.
The outgoing XV70 Camry launched in Malaysia in November 2018 and received an update in 2022, replacing the older 2AR-FE engine with the newer 2.5-liter A25A-FKS Dynamic Force four-cylinder engine.
As for pricing, the new XV80 Camry hybrid is expected to rise to around RM 250,000. Currently, the outgoing XV70 Camry 2.5V variant is priced at RM 219,800, but we’ll have to wait for official pricing on the new model.
