Malaysia & China Ink MoU to Boost Railway Development

Malaysia and China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together on developing the railway sector. The agreement was signed by Malaysia’s Transport Minister Anthony Loke and China’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing, in the presence of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The MoU, signed on Wednesday, will allow both countries to share knowledge and collaborate on railway projects.

The cooperation will focus on railway development, sharing best practices, carrying out joint projects, holding training sessions and conferences, and organising exchange visits between experts and officials. According to the official statement, this partnership will help bring in new technology, increase investment in public transport, and improve railway service efficiency in Malaysia. It also supports the goal of having a green, eco-friendly, and competitive transport system.

The main aim is to upgrade Malaysia’s transportation network and improve local and regional connectivity, which aligns with the Transport Ministry’s plans to create a modern, efficient, and inclusive public transport system. China’s experience and investment are expected to play a big role in this transformation.

On the same day, a total of 31 MoUs and exchange documents were signed between various Malaysian and Chinese ministries and agencies, showing a strong commitment to bilateral cooperation, especially in building infrastructure and modern transportation systems.
