Acupuncture
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing developed over 1000 years in China and other Eastern countries. Acupuncture works directly with the body’s energy or Qi. Acupuncture practitioners believe that all illnesses are a result of the natural flow of energy through the body becoming struck, depleted or weakened and thus making the individual susceptible to illness. Disharmonies within a person’s body and mind are determined by asking questions about presenting symptoms, life style, sleeping patterns, emotions, and feelings as well as examining the tongue, its colour, shape, and coating and taking a series of pulses on both wrists.
A traditional diagonosis is then made leading to a treatment plan which will primarily involved the use of fine needles inserted into carefully chosen points. This is to redirect, increase or decrease the body’s energy,Qi and restore balance on a emotional, spiritual and physical level.
During acupuncture treatment, different sensations, such as warmth or pressure, may be felt but the energetic sensation differs from pain.
