EPL giants Man United seek Perodua sponsorship.

SUBANG: English Premier League club Manchester United reportedly approached Malaysia’s national carmaker, Perodua, for a sponsorship deal. Perodua chairman, Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin, mentioned this during the launch of the National Amateur Golf Series (PNAGS) at Saujana Golf and Country Club on Thursday.

When asked about sponsoring the M-League or local football clubs, Asmat revealed that Manchester United had made an unexpected request. “There have been some sponsorship requests, and one of them… I don’t know if I should say this, but I received a letter from Manchester United asking if we could put our logo on their shirts and sponsor them,” he said.

Asmat, who is a big Arsenal fan, joked that supporting Manchester United might not match his personal football preference. “If we sponsor Manchester United, it wouldn’t be fair to my Arsenal, right?” he said with a laugh. Despite Manchester United’s offer, Asmat explained that Perodua prefers to support local sports. “We do consider sponsorships, especially for Malaysian sports. But we need to be selective.

“For example, in the M-League, I’m from Johor. If I support Johor Darul Ta'zim, I might lose customers from Selangor or Kelantan. So, we have to be careful about who we sponsor,” he added. Perodua is more interested in sponsoring individual sports like golf and tennis, as they focus on personal growth.
