Proton eMAS 7 Goes Global: Exports Begin to Nepal, Singapore, and Trinidad & Tobago
Proton has officially started exporting the Proton eMAS 7 to other countries, with the first batch sent to Nepal, Singapore, and Trinidad & Tobago. According to Proton, 50 units have already arrived in Nepal ahead of its launch, while Singapore and Trinidad & Tobago received a smaller, undisclosed number of cars.
Proton Edar CEO, Roslan Abdullah, stated that the eMAS 7 has been a success so far. However, the company now needs to maintain its popularity while preparing to introduce more new models this year. In addition to these three countries, Proton is also looking at expanding sales of the eMAS 7 to Mauritius, Brunei, and South Africa, as announced during its launch last year.
At the moment, the Proton eMAS 7 is manufactured in China and then exported from Malaysia. However, this will soon change as Proton is building a new RM82 million EV factory to start assembling the eMAS 7 locally. The first Malaysian-assembled units are expected to roll out by the end of this year.
In Malaysia, the Proton eMAS 7 has been well received, with over 1,000 units already delivered to customers. Additionally, more than 4,500 bookings have been placed by buyers looking to take advantage of the early bird pricing discount.
The Proton eMAS 7 comes in two variants, Prime and Premium, both featuring front-wheel drive (FWD) with a single electric motor producing 218 hp (160 kW) and 320 Nm of torque. The car has a top speed of 175 km/h, with the Prime variant accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, while the Premium variant takes 7.1 seconds, likely due to a larger battery.
