PLUS Expects Over 2 Million Vehicles on Highways This Raya

PLUS Malaysia estimates that over two million vehicles will be on its highways during the Raya festive season. Around 2.2 million cars will use the North-South Highway, while about 70,000 vehicles will travel on the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2).

According to PLUS COO Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi, this is a 20% increase compared to regular days. The busiest travel periods are expected to be March 27-29 (before Raya) and April 4-6 (after Raya).

To ease congestion, all major roadworks will be stopped from March 27 to April 7, except for emergency repairs. Heavy vehicles will also be banned from highways on March 29-30 and April 5-6.

PLUS will also activate 28 Smart Lanes, which allow cars to use the emergency lane in high-traffic areas. Three of these lanes have been in use since Chinese New Year.

Zakaria mentioned that Smart Lanes helped improve traffic flow during Chinese New Year by increasing road capacity and reducing congestion. Drivers using Smart Lanes should keep to a speed limit of 60 km/h.

He also reminded highway users not to drive on the emergency lane in areas where Smart Lanes are not activated, as this could lead to legal action.
