Budget 2025: Henry Kwek On Supporting Social Mobility And Community Development
Singapore’s policies must balance between preserving what works, improving what is necessary and embracing what is possible, said MP Henry Kwek in parliament on Wednesday (Feb 26).
Speaking on the topics of housing, ageing and artificial intelligence (AI), he stated that the government must ensure that affordability of housing for young families does not come at the expense of existing homeowners’ financial security.
On ageing, he noted that the government “must move beyond infrastructure and rethink care models that empower seniors to live independently with dignity, even in private estates”.
When it comes to AI, he said that the government would have to act decisively to develop a sovereign AI system that serves Singapore's interest while ensuring alignment of its values, securities and needs, as well as its ability to shape the world.
