Self-exploration

Self-exploration

In the last few decades the approach to education is increasingly steering towards more student centered approach of which Discovery Learning is a part. The reason for this is, it has been found to instil curiosity and motivation in students to analyze and make sense of the information they encounter. This in return results in better knowledge retention.

The feature of discovery learning is that the learning process is better than caring about learning outcomes. Specific knowledge, principles, laws, etc. enable learners themselves to explore, to discover, so that they actively participate in the learning process and undertake independent thinking.  Learning by discovery does affect students, making it ‘constructivist’. Discovery learning also increases intellectual potential, being good at discovery, and lastly helping to maintain memory of the learning materials.
