Transforming Higher Education Spaces with Expert Design and Build Solutions in KL

Day 1: The Briefing – A Blank Canvas When we first walked into the old lecture room at IMU in Kuala Lumpur, we saw a space that had served students for years but was now ready for a transformation. The university’s vision? A high-tech engineering lab that would inspire creativity, enhance collaboration, and mirror the innovation of the future.

The challenge was clear: turn a traditional classroom into a futuristic, technology-driven workspace.

Concept Development – Designing the Future of Education Spaces

Our design team at Keith Ho Design (KHD) started with research and brainstorming sessions, drawing inspiration from futuristic workspaces, space stations, and tech hubs. We envisioned a learning environment that combined sleek aesthetics with cutting-edge functionality—a place where students would feel immersed in an advanced engineering ecosystem.

We outlined three key elements for the transformation:

  • A futuristic design language – clean lines, geometric forms, and a high-tech ambiance.

  • Smart, flexible workstations – ergonomic, collaborative, and wired for innovation.

  • Immersive lighting and technology integration – to enhance focus, engagement, and interaction.

Construction Phase – College Interior Design & Build Execution

Once the design was finalized, the real challenge began: execution.

  • Lighting & Ambience: Custom-designed LED ceiling panels were installed to create an immersive, futuristic atmosphere.

  • Smart Workstations: Each station was tailored for maximum efficiency, with integrated power sources and dual-screen capabilities.

  • Color Psychology: We introduced a sleek contrast of white, black, and bold orange to energize the space while maintaining a professional tone.

  • Technology Integration: The lab was fitted with state-of-the-art screens, touch panels, and interactive learning tools, turning it into a true digital learning hub.

Completion & Reveal – A Space Transformed

After weeks of hard work, we stood back and took in the completed project.

The old lecture room was unrecognizable. Instead of conventional desks and chairs, students now had access to a futuristic learning environment, built for interaction, innovation, and exploration.

IMU’s faculty and students were thrilled—it wasn’t just a renovation; it was a transformation of how education happens. This project sets a new standard for college refurbishment in Malaysia, showcasing the potential of interior design and build solutions for higher education institutions in Kuala Lumpur and beyond.
