Chery is Gaining Popularity, Now the Fifth Hottest Brand in Malaysia.
The list of the 10 most popular cars in Malaysia now has Chery in fifth place, moving past two well-known Japanese brands.
Chery has overtaken both Mitsubishi and Mazda. While Chery moved up to take Mazda’s spot, Mitsubishi stayed in the same position as last month. This change shows that Chery is becoming more popular in Malaysia and that people's preferences and competition among car brands are shifting.
Nevertheless, Mitsubishi's growth trend in the Malaysian market could potentially shift soon due to the launch of the 2024 XPANDER and the introduction of the sixth-generation Triton pickup truck series. These new models may play a pivotal role in enhancing Mitsubishi's market performance and reshaping its position among competitors.
Meanwhile, Perodua and Proton continue to dominate the top two spots in the rankings, maintaining a stronghold over the market as the most popular brands among Malaysians.Toyota and Honda also retain their well-established positions, sitting comfortably in third and fourth place, respectively.
Rounding out the list, the brands holding the eighth, ninth, and tenth spots include the luxury automakers Mercedes-Benz and BMW, along with the emerging electric vehicle manufacturer BYD. This diverse mix of brands reflects both consumer preferences for local and Japanese brands and a growing interest in premium and electric vehicles.
This dynamic landscape highlights the evolving tastes of Malaysian consumers, blending practicality, luxury, and innovation in their vehicle choices.
