Who needs to file a tax return?
First, let's talk about what income tax is. This is a tax levied on all persons residing in Malaysia upon receipt of income.
There is no distinction between who filing a tax return, anyone is a taxpayer, as long as they earn income in Malaysia, including self-employed or employed persons, they are required to file a tax return. These taxes are handed over to the Inland Revenue Board (LHDNM – Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri Malaysia).
Simply put, everyone is responsible for filing taxes, and there is no specific income to file a tax return, or there is no tax return for less income.
